Blue Pond Hiking Trail at Dunn’s Creek lies off the beaten path. But you’ll enjoy this gem if in the area. The park, just south of Satsuma, FL, is very well maintained with a short loop of about 3 miles. You’ll find picnic benches both covered and uncovered, and even grills for family gatherings. You’ll encounter all manner of wildlife, including birding opportunities. Recent burns (as of this writing) reduce some of the greenery. Yet, at the same time, they have reduced bugs. The trail serves as an easy hike. It’s also a fun diversion while visiting the nice town with all its activities.
Blue Pond
Where the park really shines is with the very large Blue Pond (differentiated from the Green Pond on the trail). Both appear to be sinkholes. Yet the Blue Pond is simply gorgeous in its expanse after a mile or so of hiking through the thick woods. There are two places on the loop to reach it for viewing, one with a bench to sit, watch, and relax with your thoughts.
Traffic is light, so the bench provides a nice lunch spot. You can enjoy the bird and frog calls amid the quiet.
While not something to go out of your way for, this is a nice little hike when you find yourself in the area.
