George’s Lake Trail at Etoniah Creek State Forest in Putnam County, Florida offers a 1 mile there-and-back hike to a nice view of George’s Lake. You will also find a service road leading to the same spot, so I chose to take that and use the trail on the way back to create a nice loop.
The trail is narrow and well-maintained with little traffic. Both it and the service road are easy trails with almost no altitude gain, and a great opportunity if you have small children to get them outside to enjoy nature. A pier at the trail’s end offers both birding opportunities and an enjoyable view of speed and other boats making use of the lake.
Fishing is welcome from the pier!
