Digital Content Management and Development
I enjoy working at the nexus of research, writing, and digital management. Since I write content based on the research of scientists, engineers, and other knowledge experts, the starting point of research and interviews is critical to the writing process. Similarly, the technical aspects of publication and distribution – from SEO and accessibility considerations to developing engaging social media – are equally part of the storytelling process. Whether contributing to a major grant or developing a mainstream article, I always integrate a strong, digital component for greatest, cost-effective impact.

University of West Georgia
I write science news for UWG (see Feature Writing for samples) in OmniUpdate CMS while also writing alumni news and profiles and stories for our remote campus. Enjoying the front end tech side, I also am a backup for other news posts and social media, and other tasks and planning in developing strategic digital communications.
As managing editor of our digital monthly alumni newsletter, I work with writers for content images and stories, and develop the package in iModules CMS with a growing circulation currently at about 25,000.
New Mexico Space Trail
This labor of love was done in-kind while employed in education and research at NMSU. Originally conceived and constructed for the New Mexico Museum of Space History with MK Design House, New Mexico Department of Tourism has used our 50+ pages of content for it’s #NewMexicoTrue brand and campaigns including this Space Trail website for Sierra County. Our original New Mexico Space Trail website we developed – though developed in 2012 purely for desktop use – was forward-thinking in its approach to white hat SEO and useful content marketing. It has been acquired by the state for major development.
E-ONE Fire Apparatus
E-ONE Fire Apparatus – a major fire truck manufacturer in Ocala, Florida – provided me the opportunity to develop a fully integrated, digital communications strategy. I managed the website in WordPress and developed all social media campaigns and content. I even had the opportunity to stretch beyond press releases and written web content to video and photo development. Working with administration one moment and our expert engineers the next, we increased social media reach by eight-fold in four months, contributing directly to a 24% gain in web sessions. More importantly, upon publication of international press releases, the digital component lit up our salespeople’s phones with new clients.
Western Nebraska Community College
Here I worked in all aspects of website content maintenance and development through Drupal until January, 2016. This included the news blog at its peak reach with associated press releases, social media management, images, video, calendars, and event planning. I also implemented accessibility and ADA strategies for government compliance and better search engine optimization. As with E-ONE, an approximate eight-fold increase in organic sessions coupled with a modest budget to strategically boost certain social media posts resulted in about a 25% gain in web sessions and an increase in prospective student queries.
