If you want to get some outdoor time in without leaving town, Little Tallapoosa Park is a great option. Set on 330 forest acres, the park offers 7 miles of dirt trails and 2.5 miles of paved trails as well as campsites with electric hookup, RV campsites with electric, water and sewer, plus horse campsites. There’s even picnic areas, a playground for the kids, and a 2 acre pond for fishing.

But we’re here for the hiking and that said, you definitely have not left town. The paved and natural trails, as extensive as they may be, tend to tangle around and through each other, so you are never hiking far. In fact, I often found myself hiking a dirt trail just “for the heck of it” as the paved trail ran parallel just a few yards away.

Conclusion is that Little Tallapoosa Park offers a pleasant outdoor experience with amenities and the convenience of not leaving town. But rather than a hiking adventure, think of it as a fun place to take the kids, grill a steak, take a nice walk with the dog, or ride a bike for a few laps on the paved trail. Enjoy the park for what it is as you plan your next excursion out of town.
