What a peaceful little gem for a family picnic in Palatka, Florida – a quiet and pretty town in north central, Florida. Clearly a local labor of love, the sign at the entrance to Tanglewylde Nature Park reads: Funding for the acquisition of this site was funded by The Florida Communities Trust using Florida Forever Funds.

Maybe Florida Forever should be a hashtag.

This is a beautiful little place with an historic home (no entry into that), picnic tables, outdoor bathroom facilities, wheelchair access, and ample room for a bit of catch or Frisbee with the kids or a romantic day trip. As a bonus, you even get a very pleasant view of the St. Johns River.

I am proud to have added this enchanting place to Google Maps, but let’s give credit where it is due.

No hiking here, by the way. But I will be back and next time, with a picnic basket.
