Wildcat Hills in Nebraska
Amazing Sunset Following a Storm While Hiking Wildcat Hills
Scottsbluff-Gering, Nebraska
People growing up in small towns often complain “There’s nothing to do here!” When, in fact, there is so much to do. That goes for Scottsbluff and Gering in western Nebraska. The town boasts a top notch hospital and a community college, Western Nebraska Community College, which I believe is ahead of the curve in offering degrees, certificates, and other accreditation that responds to the workforce needs of the region. But I’m partial – I worked there in digital marketing and communications for two years.
More to the point is all the outdoor activity in the area, including hunting and fishing, but plenty of hiking too. Many people see the beautiful Scotts Bluff National Monument and think it ends there. They need to high-tail it over to Wildcat Hills which has several great trails and plenty of gorgeous views ranging from rocky hillsides to open farmland and prairie.
Another thing western Nebraska boasts is some turbulent weather. And while I’m not a fan of tornadoes and softball-sized hail (with spikes!) the climate makes for some of the most spectacular late spring and early summer sunsets you will find anywhere.
